Tips for long-term performance
When water storage systems are installed, regular inspections are essential. Luckily this is easy to do. In this blog, we provide you with tips for long-term performance of our metal water tanks.
Quality
At NPI, we prioritise delivering water tanks of the highest quality. Manufactured from premium raw materials by a skilled production team with decades of experience, our tanks are designed to provide reliable, watertight water storage solutions. Numerous certifications back our commitment to quality.
Quality translates directly to practical benefits:
- Reduced maintenance costs
- Extended lifespan
We understand that water is a critical resource for your business, and ensuring safe, cost-effective and trouble-free water storage is our priority.

Maintenance
Because our metal water tanks are produced to the highest standards, maintenance remains simple under normal conditions. To maximise lifespan and minimise costs, we recommend straightforward, regular inspections to ensure all components remain in good condition. This is vital for safety, warranty validation and extending the tank’s longevity.
Basic maintenance routines
Our detailed sheet with maintenance instructions is included in our manual. Here, we provide some general tips.
Water tank
We recommend to inspect the steel of the water tank periodically, which also applies for the foundation. Check if it remains in good condition. Additionally, inspect the FPP liner to detect any changes early, allowing for timely maintenance.
Covers
After heavy rainfall or storms, water and debris may collect on tensioned anti-algae covers. Remove them promptly to prevent unnecessary stress on the top ring and tank structure. We recommend regular cleaning and inspections of these covers and advise removing anti-algae covers during autumn and winter.
We also advise to inspect the floating anti-algae cover and the ENPI float frequently, and every time after harsh weather conditions. High winds can cause covers to shift, so regular checks are needed.
We recommend that the tension of steel covers should be checked annually. Tighten tie-down straps as necessary to maintain proper tension.

General Advice
Inspect connected components
Since water tanks are part of a broader irrigation system, inspect connected components such as inlets, outlets, overflow mechanisms, filters and water level indicators.
Maintain a clean environment
Keep the area surrounding the water tanks free of trees to prevent root damage and falling debris like leaves or branches. A neat and organised environment supports tank longevity.
Prioritise safety
Always prioritise safety when inspecting tanks. Avoid entering the tank with sharp objects, shoes or ladders, and take care during cleaning tasks to prevent liner damage.
Maintenance extends the lifespan of your tank
Routine visual inspections and simple maintenance checks are often all that is needed to keep a water storage system in excellent condition. While NPI water tanks are built from high-quality materials, basic care goes a long way. These easy steps can significantly extend the lifespan of your water tank.
