How a resort turned rain into resource
On the beautiful island of Koh Tao, Thailand, we supplied a 200 m³ water tank for a resort. This resort needed a reliable and safe water storage solution to support its growing number of guests, especially during the dry season. Our water tank helps to capture rainwater that runs off the roofs, and is led by gutter systems into the water tank. The stored water is clean water, since rainwater is usually of good quality and perfectly suitable for daily use at the hotel. It is used for the flushing the toilets, cleaning and the irrigation of the gardens.
Properties of the water tank
The tank measures 8.23 meters in diameter and is 3.81 meters high, providing enough capacity to meet the resort’s needs. A tensioned anti algae cover is covering the water tank, making sure no debris, leaves or dust can enter the tank. Besides, evaporation is limited. A centre pole keeps the geotextile slightly lifted, so that the large amount of rain that falls at Koh Tao can run off and will not cause sagging. The water tank was installed by our trusted Thai dealer, who provided smooth installation and supervision on-site.
Limited water access makes on-site storage essential
Islands like Koh Tao often have limited access to the national water supply. In these areas, homes and resorts usually depend on rainwater collection, groundwater wells and water delivered by truck. A metal water storage tank has proved helpful on many properties, storing the pumped up, captured or delivered water and preserving it well. Since there is no reliable public water network on the island, having a independent and on-site water supply is essential.
This project is a great example of how our water tanks support sustainable tourism by helping resorts manage water efficiently and responsibly in remote locations or islands.
