Tomatoes in greenhouses
Our dealer in Bulgaria installed an NPI water tank at a greenhouse in the Pazardzhik region. The water is used as irrigation water for the cultivation of tomatoes. De tomatoes are irrigated by drip irrigation, which brings water and nutrients direct to the roots of the plants. It enables precise control of irrigation and fertigation.
Horticulture in Bulgaria and Pazardzhik
A relatively large number of hectares or greenhouses can be found in the Pazardzhik region, where is also a lot of field production. Crops that are grown are cucumbers, bell peppers and tomatoes, including traditional Bulgarian variaties.
NPI joined a BAR (Brexit Adjustment Reserve) mission to Bulgaria in 2023, and an enormous potential for production of fruits and vegetables in Bulgaria was identified. The soil and climate conditions are favourable. However, operational challenges make it hard for Bulgarian fresh produce to reach local (super)markets and the export market. Challenges are in the insufficient infrastructure, lack of labour and import of fruits and vegetables from other countries.
