Water tanks for endemic plants, Indonesia

West Java is known for its fertile agricultural land and favourable climate, which is beneficial for cultivating a wide variety of plants. This includes not only crops but also endemic plant species that are crucial for biodiversity conservation. Rain season brings West Java an abundance of rainfall, but dry periods make water storage and efficient use of water crucial, especially for controlled cultivation environments that require a stable water supply.

NPI supplied water tanks to a government project initiated by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. The tanks in this project play an important role in ensuring a reliable water supply for the cultivation of the island’s unique plant species. The NPI water tanks store rainwater, ensure a constant water supply and enable precision irrigation. This contributes to the sustainable management of water resources and supports the conservation of native flora in West Java.

Indonesia is home to a rich variety of endemic plant species, many of which are vital for ecological balance and biodiversity. However, conservation efforts face challenges such as habitat loss, climate change and limited resources for sustainable cultivation. This pilot project demonstrates the potential for modern water management solutions, like NPI water tanks, to contribute to conservation initiatives. By integrating Dutch expertise and technology, projects like this can help strengthen Indonesia’s environmental sustainability and biodiversity preservation.
