High-tech greenhouse horticulture in South Korea
High-tech greenhouse horticulture in South Korea has undergone significant developments in recent years. In terms of climate, growing in South Korea is challenging due to the quite extreme winters and summers. Locally producing leafy vegetables year-round is only possible in greenhouses. South Korea is focused on progress, open to new ideas and has a strong interest in technology. Innovative technology driven greenhouse horticulture perfectly matches this.
Leafy vegetables
Leafy vegetables are grown in this high-tech greenhouse complex. These are very popular in South Korea because a lot of leafy vegetables are consumed there. Popular varieties include the so-called Asian vegetables, cabbage (to produce the famous kimchi) and leafy vegetables used in barbecues or as side dishes. Growing lettuce and other leafy greens in a greenhouse provides more control over their growing conditions. And with water stored in steel water tanks, even more control is gained because then also the irrigation water can be highly controlled.
Water storage tanks
Our dealer in South Korea is a greenhouse construction company that builds greenhouses from A to Z and also provides cultivation consultancy. Through this dealer, we supplied five water tanks for this vegetable grower. The sizes of the water tanks are not all the same; four smaller diameter tanks were installed and one larger diameter tank. The larger tank can feed the main irrigation system, and the smaller tanks can be used to condition water for more specific purposes.
